Following disappointment last season, the Men’s Blues are looking to bounce straight back, captained by Will Laird and coached, as ever, by Charlie Bannister. A strong group of returners, as well as a fresher intake full of quality, leaves the Deals with two clear goals in mind. A league win and promotion, marking a return to the East Prem, is vital to set up the team for success in the years to come and, as ever, the boys cannot wait to take the trip down to Southgate in March and get business done.
As the WBlues find themselves in the midst of an intense but promising preseason, gearing up for a challenging introduction to new waters, the squad look forward to the 2024-25 season ahead:
Now captained by Georgia Bozianu (with Lottie Gill and Ella Hordern as vice captains); coached by Adam Price; and managed by Nik Bentley, the WBlues were promoted to National League (Midlands Conference) and are excited for a more challenging standard of hockey - and some longer away days.
And of course, the double promotion was achieved with their movement into BUCS Prem, the highest possible league for university sides, facing fierce opposition such as Nottingham, Loughborough, Durham, and Birmingham, wherein the calibre of hockey is renowned.
Last, but certainly not least, the WBlues anticipate returning to Southgate Hockey Club in March where we’ll look for the threepeat of our Varsity Victory and to retain the prestigious trophy.
The Wanderers are again in East League 1 North, looking to build on a campaign last year where relegation went down to the final game of the season. The team is to be coached by Sam Grimshaw, assisted by Theo Flanagan, and captained by Connor Singleton. The team is also competing in the Midland Tier 3 BUCS league, having been relegated last year, and are targeting immediate promotion back to Tier 2. The ever-dependable Séan remains a constant feature on the sideline (usually on top of the dugout), continuing to prove himself as CUHC’s best mascot!
The Nomads are in East division 1 and BUCS division Midlands Tier 2, being captained by Charlotte Morgan and coached by Chenyang Li. The squad is aiming for a big double promotion this season, after coming fourth and second in East and BUCS league respectively last season. With lots of new freshers and keen returners it is shaping up to be an exciting and promising season for the Nomads.
The Squanderers are preparing for a strong season with a large intake suggesting this year’s team could be the strongest in years, we are aiming for a promotion run after coming so close last year. There are much stronger numbers this preseason which should allow us to start the season off comfortably and hopefully start the term in a much higher position in the table.
Several pre-season friendlies against other universities should also put them in better shape heading into the Varsity match to hopefully produce a great outcome this year after being more used to playing against university level teams. The Squanderers are currently being coached by Libby Reid and Caragh Haspel this year which will bring some fresh faces to the coaching side and hopefully lead to some great results.
This season, the Beds are determined to rack up more wins and make a strong push for promotion. With the guidance of our coaches, Callum Wolvers and Nick Barclay, we’re focusing on enhancing our technical skills and gameplay to dominate on the pitch. In addition, having TWO captains this year will surely mean we wilby double as good. The East League should definitely be on alert—because we’re coming for it!
The Blunderers are looking forward to a third season in the East Leagues and our second season in Division North West 4. This year our sights are firmly set on promotion, after narrowly missing out last year. With greater numbers during pre-season, we hope for a much more successful start to the season. We are now training twice a week which will enable us to build on this foundation throughout the year and achieve a BDotY win. We will be coached by Luke Poulston and Charlotte Lord.
The Rovers are coached by Rowan Chantrey and Gigi Beale and are looking to continue the success of last season in their new league, following winning the league last year. Having been promoted the last two years we’re looking for a hat-trick and with training increased to twice a week this season, we’re feeling hopeful. We’re hoping to achieve a victory at Bdoty after narrowly missing out last year #ROVENGE
